The fellowship comes with a salary of $87,500 annually, health insurance benefits for employees, a $2,500 relocation expense reimbursement cap, and a $2,500 annual travel and other professional expense allowance.

Applications for the 2024 Environmental Fellowships must be submitted between May 2020 and August 2024, and candidates must have submitted their dissertations before beginning their appointments in September 2024.

- Candidates must have a doctorate or an equivalent degree in any discipline to apply, and successful candidates must have previous scholarly research experience. Candidates and post-docs from Harvard are eligible if their research and host arrangements lead them in novel areas and help them establish new relationships inside the university. For the duration of the two-year fellowship, successful candidates must obtain Harvard faculty members' commitments to act as mentors and offer office or lab space.

A curriculum vitae, a thorough research plan, up to three publications or writing samples, and three letters of recommendation must be submitted with the Harvard Residential Environmental Fellowship application by January 10, 2024. After the application is formally submitted, recommendations should be delivered through email. A letter of support from the applicant's host outlining their dedication to the research and promising to act as a mentor is also necessary. After the submission deadline, hosts have further time to write letters.
