Applications are open for the 2026 Global Africa Gateway Summer Internship Program, a prestigious fully funded professional internship initiative jointly implemented by The Africa Center and Afreximbank. This program is designed to strengthen economic, cultural, and professional ties between Africa and the African diaspora by placing highly motivated graduate students and recent graduates into impactful internship roles across the African continent. Selected interns will be matched with reputable public and private sector institutions where they will gain hands-on experience, expand their professional networks, and contribute meaningfully to Africa’s development while deepening their personal connection to the continent.
The internship runs for approximately 8 to 12 weeks between May and August 2026 and is structured as a full-time professional engagement of up to 40 hours per week. Interns are placed in organizations operating in key sectors such as finance, trade, infrastructure, industrial development, migration policy, and international development. Through this immersive experience, participants are exposed to Africa’s dynamic economic landscape while building practical skills that prepare them for future leadership roles on the continent and globally.

Additional Information
Beyond financial support, interns benefit from professional mentorship, exposure to high-level institutions across Africa, and the opportunity to build long-term professional networks with African and global leaders. Participants gain valuable international work experience, practical skills, and cultural insight that significantly enhance their career prospects in international development, finance, policy, and related fields.
Applicants must be between 22 and 35 years old at the time of application and should either be currently enrolled in a full-time graduate program at an accredited institution or have completed their graduate studies within six months prior to the application deadline. The program is designed for graduate-level students and early-career professionals who are ready for a full-time, immersive professional experience.
Candidates must demonstrate strong interest in Africa’s economic, social, and development landscape and show clear motivation for participating in Africa–diaspora engagement initiatives. Applicants are required to be fluent in English, as all professional duties are conducted in English. Knowledge of additional languages such as French, Arabic, Portuguese, or Kiswahili is considered an advantage but is not mandatory.
Applicants must also possess a valid passport that will remain valid for at least six months beyond the end of the internship period and must be fully available to commit to the 8–12 week full-time internship between May and August 2026.
