Applications are open for the Biodiversity Media Grants 2026 offered by the Earth Journalism Network. This grant opportunity supports media organizations and journalism-focused institutions that want to strengthen reporting on biodiversity, conservation, and environmental issues. The program aims to increase the quality and quantity of biodiversity stories while raising public awareness about the threats facing ecosystems and the solutions needed to protect them.

Through this initiative, selected organizations will receive funding to produce in-depth journalism projects such as investigative stories, collaborative reporting initiatives, podcasts, multimedia projects, and journalist training programs. Program Benefits
Selected organizations will receive grants ranging between €10,000 and €12,000 to support the implementation of their journalism projects. The funding can be used for reporting costs, project coordination, training activities, multimedia production, and other expenses required to produce high-quality biodiversity stories.

Beyond financial support, the program also aims to strengthen environmental journalism by supporting projects that build the skills and networks of journalists covering conservation issues. These grants help media organizations produce deeper investigative coverage, promote collaboration among journalists, and expand public understanding of biodiversity challenges and solutions. 
Eligibility Criteria
This opportunity is open to media organizations, journalist networks, civil society organizations, and academic institutions that focus on journalism or media development. Applicants must be based in countries classified by the World Bank as low- or middle-income economies, meaning many countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and parts of Eastern Europe are eligible to participate.

Applicants should demonstrate a clear plan for producing impactful journalism projects that increase public awareness about biodiversity threats and conservation solutions. Proposals may include collaborative investigations, multimedia reporting series, or initiatives that build the capacity of journalists to report on environmental issues.

Projects that emphasize biodiversity-rich regions or countries experiencing significant biodiversity loss are especially encouraged. Applications must be submitted in English, and proposals rooted in political advocacy or campaigning will not be considered.
Eligible Countries
The grant is open to media organizations based in countries classified as low- or middle-income by the World Bank. 

This means many countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe, and parts of the Middle East are eligible.
