Applications are now open for the 2026 Copenhagen Fellowships, an intensive international program designed for students and recent graduates committed to strengthening democracy, human rights, and social justice in a rapidly evolving global landscape. About the Fellowship

The Copenhagen Fellowship is a fully funded, two-and-a-half-week residential program held in Copenhagen, Denmark, bringing together 24 selected participants from across the globe. The initiative offers an immersive academic and practical learning experience through expert-led lectures, collaborative workshops, dialogue sessions, and field visits.

Participants engage directly with policymakers, civil society leaders, and researchers, exploring strategies to respond to some of today’s most urgent global concerns — including democratic decline, widening inequality, climate change, and geopolitical uncertainty.

The program is offered at no cost to selected Fellows, ensuring access for highly motivated applicants regardless of financial background.

2026 Theme: Democracy and Human Rights in a Changing World

The 2026 edition will examine how democratic values and fundamental rights can be safeguarded amid rising global tensions. From a Nordic perspective, the Fellowship will explore pressing issues such as environmental instability, political polarization, and economic inequality.

A key feature of the 2026 program will be a focus on the Arctic region and the transatlantic relationship, using Greenland as a case study. Discussions will address themes such as self-determination, governance, Indigenous rights, and the geopolitical significance of climate change in the Arctic.

Action Projects: From Learning to Impact

A defining component of the Fellowship is the development of an Action Project. After completing the in-person program, each Fellow will design and implement a social justice initiative in their home community.

Projects may take diverse forms, including:

• Community dialogue initiatives

• Advocacy campaigns

• Documentaries or digital storytelling projects

• Artistic exhibitions

• Policy engagement platforms

Fellows receive continued guidance through structured mentorship and project labs. They also join an international network of over 3,200 Senior Fellows who provide peer support, collaboration opportunities, and long-term professional connections.

• Virtual Opening Session: 27 May 2026

• Travel to Copenhagen: 14–15 June 2026

• In-Person Program: 16 June – 2 July 2026

• Homecoming & Mentor Gathering: 24 September 2026

• Action Project Labs: September 2026 – March 2027 (hybrid participation available.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit:

• A Personal Statement (maximum 500 words)

• A 90-second video outlining their proposed Action Project

• A CV/Resume (without photo)

• Contact details for one reference (mentor or academic advisor)
