FULLY FUNDED: Apply For The EU Delegation to the African Union Funded Traineeship for Young Graduates 2026

Applications are open for the funded traineeship for young graduates at the European External Action Service through the European Union Delegation to the African Union. This opportunity is designed for young graduates interested in international relations and diplomacy who want to gain practical experience working within an EU diplomatic mission that collaborates closely with the African Union.

The traineeship will last up to six months and will take place in Addis Ababa, where the EU Delegation to the African Union is located. Selected trainees will work mainly in the Political, Press and Information Section, contributing to policy research, communication activities, and preparations for major EU–AU meetings and events. Participants will also gain first-hand exposure to diplomacy, international cooperation, and multilateral relations between Europe and Africa.

Selected trainees will receive a monthly grant intended to help cover living expenses during the traineeship period. This financial support allows participants to focus on gaining professional experience within the EU diplomatic system while working on political analysis, policy support, communication tasks, and preparations for high-level EU–AU events.

The traineeship provides valuable exposure to international diplomacy and policy work, allowing participants to attend meetings, support research on political and cooperation issues, draft communication materials, and contribute to the organization of official events. This experience can significantly strengthen a graduate’s career prospects in international organizations, government institutions, and global policy fields.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in fields such as political science, international relations, economics, law, or other social sciences. Candidates should also have less than one year of professional experience after graduation by the time they sign the traineeship agreement. Fluency in English is required because most communication and documentation in the delegation is conducted in English.

In addition, candidates should demonstrate strong analytical and writing skills, a clear interest in African Union politics and governance, and a proactive attitude toward learning and contributing ideas within a diplomatic environment. Due to current local conditions, only applicants who are currently residing in Ethiopia will be considered for this traineeship.
