Youth engagement plays a crucial role in achieving sustainable livestock transformation. To ensure successful global efforts, young people must be actively involved and prioritized in discussions. They should not be seen as mere recipients but rather as essential contributors and partners in identifying and implementing innovative solutions for efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable livestock systems.

In collaboration with UNIMED – Mediterranean Universities Union, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is organizing the Global Youth Dialogue on Sustainable Livestock Transformation. This dialogue will bring together up to 200 young people from around the world, including students, farmers, producers, and scientists with a background in livestock, to discuss key priorities and challenges. It will take place at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy, from 25th to 27th September 2023, in parallel with the FAO Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation (GC-SLT).

The Youth Dialogue is designed by youth, for youth, and participants will engage in two livestock-related topics aligned with the GC-SLT's main themes. They will develop a Youth Statement to present to the GC-SLT participants and attend selected plenary sessions of the conference.

Before the Youth Dialogue, participants will undergo virtual training on the livestock topics and the event's format. They will also receive relevant background documents and information to prepare them for active engagement.

The goals of the Youth Dialogue are to provide young people with a platform to exchange ideas on sustainable livestock transformation, engage with various stakeholders, and ensure their voices are heard in shaping the future of livestock systems.
