Applications are open for the 2023-24 Michelle Lang Fellowship in Journalism.

In memory of the award-winning Calgary Herald journalist who was slain in Afghanistan alongside four Canadian troops, the Michelle Lang Fellowship offers budding journalists a year-long internship at two of Canada's top newsrooms.

Michelle Lang Fellowship is awarded by Postmedia in recognition of a brave journalist who paid the ultimate price for their challenging reporting. It advances Lang's legacy of investigative and human-interest journalism while helping the next generation.

The Fellow will work with editors to reach the widest possible national audience in the Calgary newsroom of the National Post and Postmedia. Additionally, they will offer a special project on matters related to Canada, such as changes in the workforce, internet access, and political campaign funding. They will report on breaking news and in-depth stories for six months at the National Post and six months at the Calgary Herald beginning in early 2024.

The Michelle Lang Fellowship offers a salaried opportunity for promising journalists to grow their skills and experience in Canada's busiest newsrooms for a year.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates from Canada are given consideration for the post if they have a passion for journalism, excellent writing and communication abilities, curiosity, teamwork, rudimentary reporting skills, bilingualism, previous newspaper experience, and a valid driver's license.

Making an account and sending your cover letter, résumé, three published work examples, three references' signatures, and a statement of the unique topic you wish to research for the Fellowship are all required steps in the application process.
