FULLY FUNDED : Apply for the University of Rwanda Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program 2026–2027
Applications are now open for the University of Rwanda Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program 2026–2027, a fully funded postgraduate scholarship designed to expand access to quality higher education for talented but economically disadvantaged young Africans. Implemented through a partnership between the University of Rwanda and the Mastercard Foundation, the programme supports the development of ethical, innovative, and community-oriented leaders who are committed to driving sustainable development across Africa.
The initiative forms part of a 10-year programme that promotes inclusive higher education while creating opportunities for young people from underrepresented backgrounds, including women pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), refugees, displaced youth, and persons with disabilities.
For the 2026–2027 academic year, the programme will award 30 fully funded Master's scholarships to outstanding candidates admitted to eligible two-year postgraduate programmes at the University of Rwanda.
Priority consideration will be given to:
- Applicants pursuing STEM programmes
- Women applicants
- Refugees and displaced youth
- Persons with disabilities
Selection Priorities
The programme aims to ensure inclusive participation by prioritising:
- 80% of scholarships for STEM programmes
- 70% of awards for women
- 25% for certified refugees
- 10% for persons with disabilities
Applicants are expected to demonstrate academic excellence, leadership qualities, and a strong commitment to creating positive change within their communities.

- Hold a Bachelor's degree relevant to the Master's programme they intend to pursue
- Apply for admission to an eligible University of Rwanda Master's programme for the September 2026 intake
- Demonstrate financial or social disadvantage
- Show evidence of leadership potential and community engagement
- Not be currently enrolled in another tertiary institution
- Be 40 years old or younger for male applicants and 45 years old or younger for female applicants at the time of application
