Applications are now open for the 2025 Australia Awards Fellowships. These fellowships are designed to cultivate networks of influence and leadership by fostering partnerships between Australian organizations and their counterparts in the region.
The program is aimed at senior and mid-career officials and professionals who are positioned to enhance development outcomes in key areas and strengthen the institutional capacity of partner countries through their leadership roles.
Award Type:
Australia Awards Fellowships offer short-term opportunities for study, research, and professional development activities in Australia, hosted by Australian organizations. These fellowships do not lead to formal academic qualifications and are awarded through a competitive selection process.
Priority Areas:
Fellowship programs must focus on one of the following six development priority areas:
1. Climate change, adaptation, resilience, and green energy transition (including critical mineral mining)
2. Gender equality, disability equity, and social inclusion
3. Health
4. Digital economy, cyber resilience, and media engagement
5. Maritime and the blue economy
6. Infrastructure and connectivity
Application Timeline:
- 2 September 2024 (AEDT): Applications open
- 13 October 2024 (11:59 pm AEST): Applications close
- From May 2025: Round 20 outcomes, both successful and unsuccessful notifications, will be issued (feedback on unsuccessful proposals will not be provided)
- From May 2025: Grant payments for the Australia Awards Quad Infrastructure Fellowships Program
- From 21 July 2025: Remaining Australia Awards Fellowship Round 20 grant payments
- From 30 June 2025: Nominated and Reserve Fellow supplementary form opens
- Six months prior to the Fellow’s start date in Australia: Nominated and Reserve Fellow supplementary form closes

Additional Information
Australian organizations may request funding of up to AUD $34,500 per fellow, for a maximum of 15 fellows, to cover:
- Return air travel and relevant in-Australia travel
- Training costs
- Accommodation and living expenses
- Medical insurance for the fellowship holder while in Australia
- Special assistance for fellows with disabilities
- Program overhead fees
- Be at least 18 years old at the start of the fellowship
- Not be a permanent resident of Australia, or applying for permanent residency, nor be a partner of someone who is
- Be a citizen of an eligible country
- Not be currently serving military personnel
- Meet all requirements for a DFAT-sponsored student visa (subclass 500)
- Be able to fully participate in the fellowship without accompanying family members, as DFAT will only support individual fellows, not their families
- Fellows with disabilities who require assistance must travel with a carer
