FULLY FUNDED TO ABU DHABI: Apply for the CNN Academy Voices From The South Storytelling for Impact 2025 Programme for young storytellers

Applications are open for an exceptional journalism opportunity designed to address today’s most pressing global health challenges. From disease outbreaks to the far-reaching impacts of humanitarian crises, these issues are transforming the global health landscape and demanding urgent, fact-based reporting that can drive awareness, accountability, and action. Now more than ever, we need a new generation of storytellers—those who can amplify human stories and bring crucial issues to the forefront.

These stories are not just global headlines; they are rooted in the heart of local communities, where cultural, political, and systemic factors deeply influence health outcomes. This initiative is committed to nurturing journalists from the Global South—regions that are often at the center of global health emergencies but underrepresented in mainstream media. Whether it’s highlighting vaccine access in Sub-Saharan Africa, documenting humanitarian crises in conflict zones, or showcasing the resilience of health workers, this program is designed to help participants tell these stories with depth, context, and impact.

The journey begins with a virtual training phase from July through October 1st, 2025, hosted on the CNN Academy Hub. Participants will refine their storytelling skills, deepen their understanding of global health issues, and earn digital credentials. Those who successfully complete all courses, earn required badges, and submit a compelling pitch for a story will move on to the next phase.

In November 2025, the selected participants will travel to Abu Dhabi for hands-on training and a high-pressure, real-world simulation focused on global health reporting. This immersive experience, led by CNN Academy experts, will prepare them to tackle complex stories using mobile journalism techniques and advanced storytelling strategies.

To be eligible, applicants must be early-career journalists, content creators, or storytellers based in the Global South—spanning Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. They must have a strong command of both written and spoken English, a portfolio of relevant work, and the commitment to fully engage with the program. Additionally, applicants must be willing and able to travel to Abu Dhabi in November 2025 for the in-person training and simulation.

The deadline to apply for this transformative program is June 23, 2025. Don’t miss the chance to enhance your journalism skills, spotlight vital global health stories, and make a lasting impact through authentic and compelling storytelling.
