FULLY FUNDED TO ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA: Apply for this UN Regional Course on International Law for Africa

The 2025 United Nations Regional Course in International Law for Africa is now open for applications. Organized by the Codification Division of the UN Office of Legal Affairs, in partnership with the Government of Ethiopia, the African Union, and the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), this course is designed to provide participants with in-depth knowledge of international law.

The program is scheduled to take place in person at the ECA headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from **February 20 to March 14, 2025**. The course will be delivered in English, with a maximum of 30 participants, including a limited number of self-funded places.

Course Goals
This course offers high-level training from renowned scholars and practitioners across a wide range of international law topics. The interactive sessions will enable participants to exchange knowledge and experiences, fostering improved collaboration on legal matters within the region.

The program is tailored to help legal professionals, especially those working in government roles or teaching international law in developing and emerging economies, to enhance their understanding of international law and the legal activities of the United Nations and its affiliated bodies.

Course Outline
Participants will attend seminars delivered by distinguished legal experts from various regions and legal systems. Topics may include:

- Foundations of international law
- Treaty law and state responsibility
- International peace and security law
- Peaceful resolution of conflicts
- Diplomatic and consular relations
- Legal frameworks of international organizations
- The UN's role in international law development
- Work of the International Law Commission
- Legal structures of the African Union

- International waterways law
- Maritime law

Fellowship recipients will have their travel, accommodation, meals, and medical insurance covered. Training materials will be provided, and fellows will receive a small stipend to cover additional expenses. For self-funded participants, all expenses, such as travel, accommodation, and living costs, will need to be covered by the participants themselves, apart from the provided training materials.

Eligibility Criteria
