FULLY FUNDED TO ANTALYA ,TURKIYE : Apply for the 2026 UNFCCC Technology Mechanism AI for Climate Action (AICA) Award

Applications are now open for the 2026 UNFCCC Technology Mechanism AI for Climate Action (AICA) Award, an international competition recognizing innovative open-source artificial intelligence solutions that address climate change. The initiative highlights technologies that support climate adaptation and mitigation while expanding opportunities for innovators working in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

Launched in 2024, the AICA Award celebrates the role of AI in accelerating climate solutions. The inaugural edition attracted more than 600 submissions from 110 countries, demonstrating growing global interest in applying artificial intelligence to environmental challenges.

About the Award

The AICA Award is organized by the UNFCCC Technology Executive Committee (TEC) and the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN), in collaboration with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

The competition aims to identify and promote open-source AI technologies that contribute to low-emission development and climate resilience across a wide range of sectors.

Eligible solutions may focus on areas such as:

  • Climate-smart agriculture
  • Renewable energy
  • Water resource management
  • Waste management
  • Sustainable transport
  • Early warning systems
  • Public health
  • Other climate-related sectors

Projects should demonstrate how artificial intelligence is being applied to solve real-world climate challenges through innovative, scalable, and locally relevant approaches.

Focus on LDCs and SIDS

The 2026 edition places particular emphasis on solutions developed in—or designed for—Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States. These regions often face disproportionate climate risks while having limited access to advanced technologies and financial resources.
