 FULLY FUNDED TO BELGIUM: Apply to join the EU Advocacy Training Seminar

On October 30-31, 2024, in Brussels, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE) will jointly host a two-day in-person training session on EU advocacy.

Goals

Give a brief overview of EU advocacy on problems relating to migration and asylum.
Explain to participants how EU policies are made and the functions of the various EU agencies and players that are involved in developing EU asylum law and policy (if applicable, include a brief mention of broader migration issues).
Describe briefly the EU's involvement in politics and refugee policies both within Europe and in its connections with the outside world.
Using a case study and lobbying strategies and tools, demonstrate how EU policy can be affected.

Overview of EU policy-making
Functions and obligations of EU organisations and departments handling immigration and asylum
An overview of the Temporary Protection Directive and the Agreement on Migration and Asylum under the Common European Asylum System
Interaction with NGOs and policymakers involved in EU lobbying
acquiring techniques and abilities for advocacy

Program Benefits
The co-organizers will pay for the participants' lodging and travel expenses. It is required of participants to arrive in Brussels by Tuesday, October 29 and to remain there until Thursday, October 31 in the afternoon.




Eligibility Criteria
The training seminar will be open to a maximum of 20 participants. In the event that it becomes required, the information submitted in the application form (such as prior lobbying experience, intended EU influence, geographic representation, etc.) will be used to choose participants. Individuals with a history of being refugees, leaders of organisations led by refugees, and self-described refugee supporters residing in Europe will be given preference.
