ICP Connect study programmes are accredited international study programmes. We award scholarships to applicants from 30 eligible countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America to attend one of the study programmes taught in English at one or more Flemish universities or universities of applied sciences and arts.
Selection Criteria:
Within the ICP Connect program, scholars are viewed as potential change-makers who can contribute to societal progress in their home country or region after completing their studies. Scholarship applications are evaluated based on the following criteria:
Motivation: Applicants must demonstrate a strong motivation and professional goals that align with their ability to transfer knowledge or initiate outreach activities, especially in areas relevant to sustainable development and the specific study program. While academic performance is important, particular emphasis is placed on the candidate's potential and commitment to becoming an "agent of change" after completing their studies.
Professional Experience: Preference is given to candidates who can show a high likelihood of applying or sharing newly acquired knowledge and skills in the context of sustainable development. This includes sectors like higher education, government, civil society, or private industry, where their work can contribute to positive societal transformation.
Gender Balance: The program aims to maintain a balance between male and female scholars. VLIR-UOS actively encourages female applicants to apply for the scholarship.
Regional Diversity: Efforts are made to ensure a diverse group of scholars from various countries and regions, assuming there are enough qualified candidates from each region.
Leave No One Behind (LNOB): In cases where candidates are equally qualified, priority is given to those from vulnerable or disadvantaged groups.
Previous Scholarship Recipients: Preference will be given to those who have never received a scholarship to study in a high-income country, whether for a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
