Applications are open for the European Economic and Social Committee’s (EESC) Youth Delegate to COP programme, a unique opportunity for young leaders passionate about climate action and sustainability. Since 2021, the EESC has included a youth delegate in its delegation to COP meetings, ensuring that the perspectives of younger generations are heard in high-level decision-making. This two-year programme is designed to empower young changemakers by providing them with a platform to contribute to strategic discussions, participate in key events, and influence policies shaping the future of our planet. The selected delegate will work closely with the EESC’s Ad Hoc Group on COP, attend major conferences, and collaborate with youth networks like Generation Climate Europe, the European Youth Forum, YOUNGO, and the Global Youth Biodiversity Network.

Before attending the COPs, the youth delegate will play an active role in preparatory meetings and strategy sessions. These discussions are critical to shaping the EESC’s contributions to international negotiations on climate and biodiversity. During the COP missions, which usually last around five days, the delegate will join the official EESC delegation, participate in events, and engage with civil society organizations, youth leaders, and other stakeholders to amplify the youth perspective.

The experience doesn’t end with the conferences. After each mission, the delegate will take part in debriefing sessions, evaluating the outcomes and helping to plan next steps. At the end of their term, they will prepare a detailed report summarizing their achievements and insights from the programme, contributing to the smooth onboarding of their successor.
