FULLY FUNDED TO GENEVA, SWITZERLAND: Apply for the UN Human Rights Commission Fellowship Programme 2025 for young African changemakers

The United Nations is currently inviting applications for its 2025 Fellowship Programme for individuals of African descent. Organized by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), this annual initiative offers an in-depth training experience in human rights, specifically tailored for individuals from the African diaspora who are actively involved in promoting and safeguarding the rights of people of African descent.

Held in Geneva, Switzerland, the programme seeks to enhance the participants’ knowledge and practical skills to effectively advocate for civil, political, social, economic, and cultural rights in their home countries. Fellows will be equipped with critical tools to help shape national laws, policies, and initiatives in accordance with international human rights frameworks. The training also aims to foster stronger partnerships between civil society and governmental bodies, while empowering participants to conduct local outreach and advocacy efforts.

To be considered, applicants must identify as persons of African descent and reside outside of the African continent. A minimum of four years of experience working in the field of racial justice or on issues affecting people of African descent is required. Applicants must also provide an official recommendation letter from an organization focused on minority or African descent rights, verifying their position and work. Participation throughout the entire programme is mandatory, and selected individuals are expected to engage fully in all scheduled activities.

Successful applicants will receive a round-trip economy flight from their country of residence to Geneva, along with basic health insurance coverage and a stipend to help with modest accommodation and daily expenses during the fellowship. The training will run from November 10 to 28, 2025, and includes a short period of online preparatory work to be completed in the two weeks prior to the in-person programme.
