FULLY FUNDED TO JAPAN: Apply for the Joint Japan-World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program 2025
The 2025 Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) is now accepting applications. This fully-funded initiative is specifically designed for individuals from eligible developing nations who have demonstrated professional experience and a commitment to fostering development within their home countries. Applicants must also be pursuing a master’s degree in a field directly linked to development.
Depending on available funding, the JJ/WBGSP supports a variety of master’s programs, with 41 participating courses offered across 24 universities worldwide. These universities are located in regions such as the United States, Europe, Africa, Oceania, and Japan. The programs focus on essential development areas, including economic policy management, tax administration, and infrastructure planning.
Key Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, candidates must meet the following conditions:
•Hold citizenship in a developing country that is a World Bank member, as specified on the official list.
•Possess no dual citizenship from any developed country.
•Be physically and mentally fit.
•Have earned a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent at least three years before the deadline.
•Be actively engaged in full-time, paid employment related to development and have accumulated at least three years of work experience in this field within the last six years.
•By the application deadline, have secured unconditional admission (except for funding requirements) to a JJ/WBGSP-participating master’s program located outside their home country. An admission letter must be submitted along with the scholarship application.
•Be free from affiliations with the World Bank Group in capacities such as staff, executives, or close relatives of such individuals, defined as immediate family members including parents, siblings, children, aunts, uncles, nieces, or nephews.
•Applicants who previously declined or did not complete a JJ/WBGSP scholarship are ineligible to reapply.
Scholarship Benefits
The program offers comprehensive financial support, including:
•Economy-class round-trip airfare between the scholar’s home country and the host institution at the beginning and end of the program. Scholars will also receive a $600 travel stipend for each journey.
•Full coverage of tuition fees and basic health insurance through the host university.
•A monthly allowance to support living expenses such as accommodation, food, and books during the scholarship period. The amount provided varies based on the location of the host institution.
Scholarships are awarded for the entire duration of the master’s program or up to two years, whichever period is shorter.
Application Deadline
Applications must be submitted by February 28, 2025.
