Applications are now open for the 2026 United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and Government of Japan fellowship programme, created in partnership with the Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech). This initiative, dedicated to students from developing nations and countries without active space programmes, focuses on advanced training in nano-satellite engineering. Through this opportunity, participants will gain hands-on experience and access to Kyutech’s specialized laboratories and satellite development facilities, designed to equip them with practical and research-based knowledge in the field of space technology.

The programme, known as the Post-graduate Study on Nano-Satellite Technologies (PNST), admits a limited number of students each year. Up to three candidates will be selected for the two-year master’s degree track, while another three may enter the three-year doctoral route. Those who successfully complete their academic and research requirements, including the defence of their thesis, will be awarded graduate-level qualifications. Admission requires candidates to first pass the entrance assessment of the Space Engineering International Course (SEIC) at Kyutech’s Graduate School of Engineering.

Fellows chosen for this opportunity will receive comprehensive financial support through the Japanese government’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) scholarship. This includes a monthly stipend of roughly 144,000 Japanese Yen, intended to cover essential living expenses such as rent, food, transportation, and daily needs for the entire duration of their study. In addition, MEXT will provide round-trip airfare in economy class from the applicant’s home country to Japan, following approved routes and schedules. All academic costs, including examination fees, matriculation, and tuition, will also be fully covered by Kyutech, ensuring that students can devote their full attention to research and study without financial burden.
