Unlocking the Power of Heritage Storytelling: A Capacity-Building Workshop
The African World Heritage Fund (AWHF) and the International Centre for the Interpretation and Presentation of World Heritage Sites (WHIPIC), in collaboration with Rwanda's Ministry of National Unity and Civic Engagement (MINUBUMWE), invite heritage practitioners to a comprehensive workshop on interpreting and presenting World Heritage sites associated with Africa's recent conflict history.
Workshop Objective
Enhance capacities of heritage professionals in effectively communicating the significance of World Heritage sites to diverse audiences, ensuring their conservation and management for future generations.
Workshop Format
The workshop comprises two sessions:
1. Online (October 28-31, 2024)
2. In-person (November 11-15, 2024, Kigali, Rwanda)
Participants must attend all sessions.
Case Study Requirements
Submit a 500-word case study on an African World Heritage site associated with recent conflicts, including:
1. Site description
2. Conservation and management
3. Interpretation and presentation challenges
4. Good practices
Selection Criteria
Participants will be selected based on:
1. 5+ years of experience in cultural/natural heritage
2. Fluency in English/French
3. Knowledge of the World Heritage Convention
4. Experience in heritage conservation, interpretation, and presentation
5. Motivation and interest in World Heritage
