Fully Funded to Nadi, Fiji : Apply for the Climate Mobility Training in the Pacific
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), in collaboration with UNESCAP and OHCHR, will host a training workshop on Climate Mobility.
Overview and Context
The Pacific Climate Change Migration and Human Security (PCCMHS) Phase II Programme aims to enhance the resilience and adaptability of Pacific communities in the face of climate change and natural disasters. A central goal is to ensure that migration remains a voluntary decision while minimizing and addressing displacement risks.
The programme supports three core objectives:
- Strengthening regional and sub-regional collaboration among Pacific governments on climate-related mobility.
- Assisting national governments in creating and implementing policies on climate mobility.
- Promoting active participation of civil society, workers’ organizations, employer groups, and local communities in shaping climate mobility policy and practice at national, regional, and global levels.
The PCCMHS initiative is jointly implemented by IOM (as lead agency), in partnership with the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), International Labour Organization (ILO), Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Platform on Disaster Displacement (PDD), and Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS).
About the Training Package
As part of the programme, IOM has developed the Pacific Climate Mobility Training Package, which includes a comprehensive facilitator’s guide. This resource will support the delivery of regional capacity-building workshops in 2025, targeting IOM personnel, government officials, civil society members, and community representatives. The training aligns with and expands upon the Pacific Regional Framework on Climate Mobility.
The training materials were pilot-tested during a three-day session in December 2024, followed by a stakeholder validation workshop in February 2025.
This training uses a hands-on, interactive methodology. Through role-playing, scenario simulations, and group activities, participants will learn how to apply climate mobility concepts in real-world contexts. The sessions also aim to refine the training modules and enhance cultural and contextual relevance.
