Applications are now being accepted for the 2025 edition of the Africa Check Fellowship Programme. Organized in partnership with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, this initiative invites African journalists and fact-checkers with a strong interest in verification work to apply for an immersive 12-day fellowship taking place in November 2025. The programme will be hosted in English at Africa Check’s Nairobi offices in Kenya.

This fellowship offers an intensive, hands-on learning experience designed for reporters dedicated to accuracy and integrity in journalism. With misinformation and disinformation continuing to undermine democratic debate, public trust, and social stability, the training provides participants with both theoretical understanding and practical skills to challenge and correct false information in their work.

Across many African contexts, false claims have had a significant influence on public opinion, especially where reliable information is scarce. To respond to this growing concern, Africa Check, recognized as a pioneer in fact-checking on the continent, has teamed up with the German foundation Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, which works to promote democracy and sustainable development. Together, they have built a programme that strengthens journalists’ ability to protect the truth and resist the spread of harmful narratives.

The training will take place in Nairobi, a central hub that encourages regional collaboration and exchange among participants from different countries. All sessions will be delivered in English, requiring attendees to have strong language skills in order to actively engage in discussions and group exercises.

The fellowship is open to African-based reporters and media practitioners who demonstrate a genuine interest in fact-checking and verification. Those working in newsrooms or operating as freelancers with a focus on reporting or investigative work are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates should be passionate about advancing ethical, reliable journalism and be ready to dedicate themselves fully to the 12-day programme. While prior experience in fact-checking is not mandatory, applicants must show a clear commitment to truthful reporting and a determination to counter misinformation.
