FULLY FUNDED TO PARIS, FRANCE: Apply for the French Institutes for Advanced Study Fellowship Programme 2026/27 (with monthly stipends)
Applications are currently being accepted for the 2026–2027 edition of the French Institutes for Advanced Study (FIAS) Fellowship Programme. This opportunity provides ten-month research stays at seven prestigious institutes located in Aix-Marseille, Cergy, Loire Valley (Orléans-Tours), Lyon, Montpellier, Nantes, and Paris. The program is designed for accomplished international researchers and scholars seeking to carry out original and forward-thinking research projects within a vibrant academic environment in France.
For the 2026–2027 academic cycle, a total of 28 fellowship placements are available across the various host cities, including seven spots each in Aix-Marseille and Paris, three in Cergy and Lyon, two in Montpellier and the Loire Valley, and four in Nantes. The initiative is open to researchers in all areas of the social sciences and humanities, as well as interdisciplinary fields that overlap with these domains. Prospective applicants are advised to review the individual profiles and thematic interests of the host institutions to align their proposals with institutional strengths and priorities.
Fellows selected for the program will be welcomed into a rich, interdisciplinary setting where they are encouraged to pursue their research freely and independently. The academic institutes involved are known for fostering collaboration, providing access to established networks, and maintaining close ties with local universities and research facilities.
The program is accessible to researchers at various stages of their academic careers, from emerging postdoctoral scholars to seasoned academics. To qualify, candidates must hold a doctoral degree and have accrued at least two years of full-time research experience beyond the PhD. This requirement excludes time spent during doctoral training. The opportunity is open to applicants from any country, provided they have not resided in France for more than a year during the three-year window preceding the application deadline.
Those who are awarded a fellowship will receive a comprehensive package of support that includes a monthly stipend of 2,200 euros, access to health insurance, accommodation, a budget for research and professional development, as well as travel reimbursement.
