The 2025 edition of the World Forum for Democracy is currently inviting applications for its annual Call for Initiatives. This global call is directed at pioneering projects and strategies that aim to strengthen democratic governance and advance lasting peace in communities worldwide. The forum offers a unique opportunity for changemakers to share their approaches and contribute to a collective conversation on shaping more inclusive and participatory democracies.

Organized by the Council of Europe, the World Forum for Democracy serves as a global stage for open dialogue among decision-makers and grassroots actors. It brings together diverse voices—from civil society organizations to policymakers—to confront the most pressing issues facing democracy today. By examining practical solutions and showcasing inventive models of engagement, the Forum influences democratic practice at both the institutional and community level.

In its 13th year, the event will explore how societies can maintain harmony amidst increasing complexity. High-level debates and engaging discussions will be held during plenary sessions, where global leaders from politics, civil society, business, and academia will share their insights. Another key part of the program, called “Time for Ideas,” will feature concise presentations of promising initiatives and expert viewpoints, followed by interactive exchanges with the audience.

Organizations operating in any country, whether they are public institutions, NGOs, international bodies, or local community groups, are encouraged to submit their innovative work. Selected initiatives will have the chance to be presented in person at the Forum in Strasbourg. For participants whose proposals are chosen, the Council of Europe will cover travel and accommodation costs if financial support is needed.
