The 2026 Stigler Center Journalists in Residence Program is now accepting applications. Established in 2017, this initiative was designed to cultivate the next wave of leaders in business journalism by offering an immersive educational experience for journalists from all types of media across the globe. Participants engage with the Hyde Park campus for roughly twelve weeks, where they have the opportunity to audit courses, attend events hosted by the Stigler Center, collaborate with fellow journalists, and connect with the university’s faculty and academic community.

Applicants should have several years of professional experience in journalism, possess strong English language skills, and demonstrate a keen interest in expanding their knowledge of political economy. The program provides a unique chance to deepen understanding of complex economic and business issues while interacting with scholars and peers from around the world.

During the residency, participants gain access to specialized seminars and workshops, learn alongside world-renowned faculty, and are able to build a professional network with colleagues from diverse media backgrounds. The program covers economy-class travel to and from Chicago, as well as SEVIS and visa application costs. Residents receive a living stipend of $14,000 for the duration of the twelve-week experience, subject to tax withholding of up to 14 percent for international participants, depending on their home country’s tax treaty with the United States.

Journalists in the program may audit classes at one of the world’s leading business schools, participate in various university-wide seminars, contribute articles to the ProMarket publication, and collaborate with both faculty and fellow participants. Each resident is provided with a dedicated study area and, upon completion, receives a certificate acknowledging their successful participation in the program.
