FULLY FUNDED TO THE US: Apply for the CEGA Fellowship Program 2025 for young researchers from East and West Africa

The Center for Effective Global Action (CEGA) is offering a 16-week fellowship designed for researchers from East and West Africa who are eager to enhance their expertise in quantitative social science research. The fellowship will take place in person at either the University of California, Berkeley, or Northwestern University.

During the program, fellows will have the opportunity to participate in seminars and conferences focusing on research in social and economic development. They will present their work in various workshops, engage in rigorous graduate-level coursework on impact evaluation, and attend specialized training sessions on data science tools such as Stata, R, and Python. The fellowship includes the chance to work on an independent research project under the guidance of a CEGA or GPRL faculty mentor. This project will be based on the proposal submitted during the application process but will be refined throughout the fellowship period.

Fellows will also benefit from tailored modules that focus on research transparency, reproducibility, communications, qualitative data analysis, and cost-effectiveness studies. Opportunities to collaborate with faculty and students from different academic departments will be available, alongside visits to other universities such as UC Santa Cruz, Stanford University, UC Davis, the University of Chicago, and the University of Illinois, where fellows can present their research. Additionally, participants will contribute to adapting impact evaluation curricula for institutions in East or West Africa and engage in various team-building activities with CEGA and GPRL staff.

The fellowship offers significant financial support, including coverage for accommodation, health insurance, visa processing fees, and round-trip economy airfare. Participants will also receive a modest stipend to manage additional expenses during their stay. While funding for family members or spouses is not included, fellows will receive a post-program grant of $10,000 to either pilot a research project or secure a professional research placement, as determined collaboratively with CEGA staff and mentors. Furthermore, fellows will have the chance to compete for a larger grant of up to $45,000 to support international development research initiatives.

This program provides a comprehensive platform for researchers to advance their careers while contributing to impactful global research.
