The International Program in Public Health Leadership (IPPHL) is an eight-month program designed for emerging leaders who work with African Ministries of Health or closely related entities. IPPHL, a flagship initiative of the University of Washington's Evans School, aims to enhance leaders' skills in policy and leadership, enabling them to create long-lasting public policy solutions and transform healthcare systems. The curriculum focuses on policy analysis, evidence evaluation, implementation, and personal leadership development.
Since 2017, IPPHL has trained 150 public health professionals from 29 African countries. This program is fully funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and collaborates with the Center for Creative Leadership.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Participants should be mid-career public health professionals from Africa, working at various government levels or government-affiliated entities.
- They must be responsible for managing public health programs and may oversee staff or teams.
- A relevant degree in public health or a medical profession is required.
- Applicants must be citizens and residents of African countries.
- Proficiency in English is essential, along with the ability to discuss policy and program challenges in public health.
Program Requirements:
- If accepted, participants must attend all program components, including virtual and in-person sessions, and complete preparatory work.
- The program includes orientation, policy-intensive sessions, a leadership immersion in Seattle, USA, a launch and learn phase, and a capstone seminar in Nairobi, Kenya.
- Throughout the program, participants will work on a policy project related to a challenge in their work, receiving guidance from a faculty advisor.
