FUNDED: Apply for the AU–EU Summit Model 2026 for African and European youth
Applications are open for the AU–EU Summit Model, a joint initiative of Model AU–Ethiopia, the European Union Delegation to the African Union, and the African Union Commission’s Women, Gender and Youth Directorate (WGYD), taking place on May 12–13, 2026 at the African Union Commission Headquarters. Held between Europe Day (May 9) and Africa Day (May 25), this unique event celebrates both regions while placing young people at the center of dialogue and decision-making.
This is more than a simulation; it is a platform for young leaders from Africa and Europe to engage with some of the brightest minds across both continents, experience the inner workings of AU and EU decision-making systems, and contribute meaningful, youth-driven perspectives to continental and global policy discussions. Participants will take on roles as Ministers, Ambassadors, Heads of State, Commissioners, and senior officials, developing critical skills in diplomacy, leadership, teamwork, public speaking, and negotiation, while producing recommendations to be shared with AU and EU officials and member state representatives.
The Summit Model will focus on key pillars of the AU–EU Partnership, including multilateralism, peace, security and governance, green transition and economic cooperation, people-to-people engagement, and education. It also serves as a powerful example of youth empowerment and development, strengthening participants’ understanding of Agenda 2063, the AU–EU Joint Vision for 2030, and the EU’s Global Gateway strategy.
Applicants must be nationals of AU or EU member states, aged between 17 and 30, and should be pre-college students, university students, or recent graduates. Proficiency in English or French is required, along with a demonstrated passion for Agenda 2063 aspirations, the AU–EU Partnership, and a commitment to driving positive change as Afro-European and global citizens.
Participation in the AU–EU Summit Model is free, with organizers covering the program and meals. However, participants are responsible for their own transportation, accommodation, and personal expenses. Interested applicants can register by completing the official Google Form, and all applicants will receive confirmation after the deadline. The application deadline is Thursday, April 30, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. Ethiopian Time.
