FUNDED: Apply for the TWAS-NCP Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme 2025 for young scientists
The TWAS-NCP Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme for 2025 is currently accepting applications. This opportunity is designed for early-career researchers from developing nations—excluding Pakistan—who are interested in conducting postdoctoral studies in the physical sciences. Selected fellows will carry out their research at the National Centre for Physics (NCP), located in Islamabad, Pakistan.
The fellowship duration ranges from six to twelve months and allows participants to engage in advanced research across a wide spectrum of physical science disciplines. These include, but are not limited to, plasma and high-energy physics (both theoretical and experimental), quantum information science, atomic physics and spectroscopy, ion beam technique applications with a 5MV Tandem Accelerator, astrophysics and cosmology, and artificial intelligence. Other areas of focus encompass vacuum science and technology, including vacuum standards and material coating, additive manufacturing, 3D printing, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy, and computational modeling and simulation.
Participants will receive a monthly allowance provided by NCP to support daily living expenses such as food, housing, and medical coverage. This stipend is intended solely for use within Pakistan and is not transferable to foreign currency. All activities and instruction within the programme will be conducted in English.
To qualify, applicants must be citizens and full-time residents of a developing country outside of Pakistan. They should not possess any form of residency or visa—either temporary or permanent—for Pakistan or any developed nation. Candidates must have earned a PhD in a natural science discipline within the past five years and should currently be engaged in a research-based position in their home country. A valid medical certificate confirming good health is required.
Furthermore, candidates must secure an official invitation letter from NCP. To obtain this, they need to reach out to the Director of the Collaboration & Academic Activities Directorate at NCP (email: caad@ncp.edu.pk) with a research concept note and their curriculum vitae. The director will coordinate the assignment of a host supervisor. Applicants who were educated in a language other than English must present proof of English proficiency. Additionally, they must demonstrate a commitment to return to their home country after completing the fellowship and refrain from engaging in any other work commitments during the fellowship tenure. Any accompanying family members will be the financial responsibility of the fellow.
