Applications are now being accepted for young leaders committed to organic waste management and the protection of informal waste workers’ rights. The global shift toward zero-waste must be fair and inclusive, ensuring that every community has access to sustainable and just waste solutions. To make this possible, we need powerful, community-centered initiatives that not only implement zero-waste practices but also hold governments and corporations accountable for delivering an equitable transition.

The UMI Fund is seeking to support dynamic youth-led projects and campaigns that embody these values, offering microgrants to promising individuals, collectives, and organizations led by people aged 18 to 34.

These grants are tailored for emerging actors who are just beginning their work and may not yet have access to larger funding opportunities. Through this program, up to 20 microgrants will be awarded for initiatives that introduce environmentally just solutions, particularly composting projects, while prioritizing the recognition and inclusion of informal waste workers in the process.
