GRANTS: Apply for the Uproot Project Fellowship grants 2025
Applications are due by March 1, 11:59pm ET.
Applications are open for The Uproot Project Fellowship, a unique opportunity for early-career journalists passionate about environmental storytelling.
This fellowship provides up to $2,000 to support travel, reporting expenses, and other costs for projects focusing on urgent environmental issues. Whether you’re exploring environmental justice, climate solutions, the intersections of water, food, and culture, or scientific perspectives, your story could be the one that sheds light on crucial yet overlooked topics.
We’re especially eager to support stories that link climate challenges with broader social inequities. The fellowship is designed for underrepresented voices, including freelancers with limited newsroom experience, recent journalism graduates, and individuals with strong writing skills and scientific knowledge but limited formal journalism training. Fellows will also benefit from assistance in getting their stories placed with media outlets and receive support throughout their reporting process.
