The 2025 Environmental Photography Grant by Vital Impacts is now accepting applications. This opportunity is presented by Vital Impacts, a non-profit, women-led organization that harnesses the power of visual storytelling and art to champion communities actively engaged in protecting nature, wildlife, and people around the globe.

The grants are intended to serve two core purposes: they aim to uplift and support photographers undertaking in-depth documentary work, while also encouraging meaningful collaboration with grassroots conservation efforts. Through this initiative, one seasoned environmental photographer will receive a $20,000 grant, while six additional grants of $5,000 each will be awarded to up-and-coming photographers worldwide. These financial awards are meant to facilitate the creation of long-term visual projects focused on pressing environmental themes. Each recipient will be supported over a one-year period to carry out a project that highlights environmental challenges and solutions through powerful visual narratives.

At the heart of the initiative is a commitment to promoting stories that offer hope and actionable paths forward. Selected photographers will be given the time and creative space to build compelling photographic bodies of work, all while being encouraged to document solution-oriented environmental efforts.

In addition to the financial support, ten emerging photographers will be invited to take part in a yearlong mentorship experience. These participants will benefit from personalized guidance through one-on-one meetings with respected figures in the photography world, including established visual storytellers, editors, and industry leaders. The mentorship will provide an opportunity to hone creative approaches, deepen industry insight, and build critical professional relationships.

Vital Impacts is specifically looking for photographers who are closely connected to their local environments and communities—individuals who not only understand the unique environmental issues in their regions but are also driven to tell those stories with depth and authenticity. The ideal applicants are those who can shed light on the nuances of environmental and conservation struggles while also capturing innovative or hopeful solutions within their visual work.
