The Environmental Paper Network (EPN) International is seeking an experienced communications professional to support the Forests Are Not Fuel Europe (FANFE) coalition, a network of environmental organisations and campaigns working on European policies related to forest protection, biomass energy and climate action.

The part-time role offers an opportunity for a communications professional to contribute to an international environmental campaign while working remotely within the European Union and supporting activities that require occasional travel to Brussels.

About the Role

The Communications Professional will help plan, coordinate and deliver the FANFE campaign's communications strategy, with a particular focus on the EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED) and the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS).

The successful candidate will develop communications materials that can be used by both the campaign's core team and coalition members during joint advocacy and campaign activities.

The position combines strategic communications, content production, media engagement and coordination across a coalition of organisations working to influence European policy discussions around forest biomass and energy.

Key Responsibilities

The Communications Professional will be responsible for:

  • Planning, executing and coordinating the campaign's communications strategy.
  • Producing campaign communications materials, including visuals, videos, press releases and social media content.
  • Developing communications assets that can be used by coalition partners during joint activities.
  • Coordinating collective communications activities across the FANFE coalition.
  • Supporting the organisation of in-person activities such as press conferences and campaign actions.
  • Maintaining shared communications resources, including photographs, cartoons, articles and other campaign materials.
  • Monitoring international, EU and national media coverage of biomass-related issues.
  • Tracking social media and traditional media discussions relevant to the campaign.
  • Gathering intelligence on industry communications and messaging.

Additional Experience

The following would be considered beneficial:

  • Experience working with environmental NGOs or international campaigns.
  • Knowledge or experience relating to climate change, forest protection or woody biomass for energy.
  • Knowledge of another European language in addition to English.
  • Understanding of EU decision-making processes.
  • Familiarity with the EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED).
  • Familiarity with the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS).

Contract and Salary

The position is offered as a 12-month freelance contract and is part-time, requiring approximately 10 working days per month.

The remuneration is €2,860 gross per month, equivalent to an annual amount of €34,320 for the role. EPN states that it covers VAT where applicable and provides 15 days of paid annual leave.

The position may be undertaken on a self-employed basis or as an employee of an EPN International member organisation, subject to agreement with the relevant organisation.

Location and Working Arrangement

The role is predominantly remote and is open to candidates based within the European Union.

The successful candidate will need to be available for occasional travel to Brussels, with the job description indicating that several visits may be required during the 12-month contract.
