Join the World Food Forum (WFF) Young Scientists Group 2025 – 2027
The WFF Young Scientists Group (YSG) was established in 2022 as the primary source of scientific expertise and technical guidance for the various programs and initiatives of the World Food Forum (WFF). These include key projects such as the Youth Assembly, Innovation Lab, and Education Programme. The group’s efforts are highlighted in the biennial release of a detailed report, which focuses on pressing technical issues that concern young people and the transformation of agrifood systems.
Operating in two-year cycles, the YSG’s structure is closely aligned with the FAO’s Four Betters framework: better production, better nutrition, better environment, and better life. This alignment is further refined through specific Programme Priority Areas (PPAs), which help guide the group’s activities. Drawing on FAO’s expertise and collaborating with relevant partners and academic networks, the YSG provides crucial scientific input to the WFF. This includes offering formal opinions on policy documents, official statements, and practical proposals created by youth participants.
Applications are now open for the 2025–2027 cohort. Those selected will contribute to a range of responsibilities. Beyond their primary focus on the biennial report, members will work on activities in three main areas. First, they will address Programme Priority Areas within the FAO’s Strategic Framework (2022–2031), ensuring their efforts align with WFF goals and Youth Assembly priorities. Second, they will provide regional advisory support, helping to integrate science-based evidence into key WFF initiatives. Finally, they will lend their expertise to various WFF programs, including the Youth Skills Hub, Agrifood Leadership Education Programme, Youth Towards Zero Food Waste Campaign, Transformative Research Challenge, Youth Food Lab, and more.
By contributing to these areas, YSG members play a pivotal role in shaping WFF initiatives with scientifically grounded insights, helping drive impactful solutions for sustainable agrifood systems.
