very important initiatives, regulations, and/or measures based on the greatest available science for the preservation and protection of ecosystems, species, or habitats. Spain, Latin America, and the rest of the world are the main targets of the actions.
spreading environmental information and educating people in Spanish about the need of protecting the environment.
Award Categories
There are four award categories:
- BBVA Foundation Award for Biodiversity Conservation in Spain: This award recognizes the execution of particularly impactful projects, policies, or actions focused on conserving and protecting habitats, species, or ecosystems in Spain. The projects must be completed by December 31, 2024, and demonstrate measurable results in biodiversity conservation.
- BBVA Foundation Award for Biodiversity Conservation in Latin America: This award acknowledges significant projects, policies, or actions aimed at the conservation and protection of habitats, species, or ecosystems in one or more Latin American countries. The projects must be completed by December 31, 2024, and show measurable outcomes in biodiversity conservation.
- BBVA Foundation World Award for Biodiversity Conservation: This award honors the implementation of major projects, policies, or actions that contribute to the conservation and protection of habitats, species, or ecosystems in any country, with significance and impact that extend beyond national borders.
- BBVA Foundation Awards for the Dissemination of Knowledge and Raising Awareness in Biodiversity Conservation in Spanish: This category recognizes efforts to spread environmental knowledge and raise awareness about the importance of biodiversity conservation in Spanish-speaking communities. This includes work such as articles, monographs, popular books, multimedia materials, reports, documentaries, exhibitions, or activities across any communication channel (press, radio, television, cinema, internet, social media, etc.). The work must be completed by December 31, 2024, and demonstrate tangible results in educating the public and promoting conservation awareness. There are two subcategories: one focused on audiovisual formats and another for all other formats.
