PAID FELLOWSHIP: Apply for the Heinrich Böll Foundation’s Green Foreign Policy Fellowship 2025 for young researchers and Changemakers

Applications are now being accepted for the 2025 edition of the Green Foreign Policy Fellowship hosted by the Heinrich Böll Foundation. This international programme is designed to engage emerging and established professionals in shaping and advancing progressive perspectives on foreign and security policy. It offers a unique opportunity for individuals from around the world to contribute to vital discussions, refine their ideas, and explore innovative approaches to implementing environmentally responsible and socially just foreign policy agendas. Over the course of the fellowship, participants will explore the evolving framework of green diplomacy and security while developing new concepts and policy recommendations in the field.

The fellowship spans two semesters, with the first focused primarily on research and content development. During this period, fellows will receive a financial stipend of 6,000 euros, disbursed in scheduled instalments. The second half of the programme emphasizes public engagement, knowledge exchange, and showcasing the fellows’ outputs. Participants will be supported in presenting their work at relevant gatherings and events, while also benefiting from networking opportunities to connect with influential policymakers, scholars, and activists. The foundation will also cover travel and accommodation costs related to these events and, where applicable, provide assistance with visa procedures by issuing official letters of invitation. While visa support is provided, the foundation cannot ensure timely visa issuance.

Fellows will gain public visibility through promotion on various digital platforms, helping to elevate the reach and impact of their work. Furthermore, upon completing the programme, participants will become part of a growing alumni network committed to shaping inclusive, sustainable, and forward-looking foreign policy agendas. They will carry the title of Green Foreign Policy Scholar and continue to collaborate with peers who share a commitment to reimagining global engagement through a progressive lens.

The foundation is seeking applicants who are actively contributing to foreign and security policy discussions, whether through academic research, public service, or civil society involvement. Potential topics of exploration include, but are not limited to, the application of human rights in international relations, gender-inclusive diplomatic strategies, climate-based foreign engagement, global cooperation frameworks, and decolonial analysis of trade and global resources. Ideal candidates may be university graduates with a background in political science or international relations, as well as professionals, researchers, and doctoral candidates with a demonstrated interest in rethinking traditional security narratives.
