PAID & HYBRID : Apply for the Carbon Brief Summer Internship 2026

Applications are now open for the 2026 Summer Journalism Internship hosted by Carbon Brief, an award-winning climate journalism platform known for its in-depth reporting and analysis on climate science, energy, policy, and environmental issues. The internship offers students and recent graduates an opportunity to gain practical newsroom experience while contributing to climate-focused journalism.

The three-week paid internship will take place from 13 to 31 July 2026 and combines in-person work at Carbon Brief’s office near London Bridge in central London with remote working arrangements. Interns will work closely with journalists, editors, visual specialists, and social media teams while learning how climate stories are researched, produced, and communicated to a global audience.

Participants will have the chance to research, write, and publish their own article on Carbon Brief while also assisting with newsletters, social media content, and climate-related research. The internship is designed for individuals interested in climate communication, journalism, policy, and scientific storytelling.

Areas of Learning and Experience

Interns will contribute to:

  • Researching and writing climate-related stories
  • Producing social media and visual communication content
  • Supporting Carbon Brief newsletters and editorial research
  • Identifying trends from scientific papers and policy reports
  • Learning newsroom workflows and editorial processes
  • Understanding how data, visuals, and storytelling are used in climate journalism

Required Application Materials

Candidates must submit:

  • An updated CV
  • A cover letter of no more than 300 words explaining their interest in the internship
  • One article or writing sample previously published online, in student media, or on a personal platform
  • A story pitch idea relevant to Carbon Brief’s coverage areas

Eligibility Criteria
- Demonstrate a strong interest in climate change and environmental issues

- Have some experience explaining technical subjects to a general audience

- Show an interest in journalism and ethical reporting
Possess strong written and spoken English skills

- Be familiar with tools such as Google Docs, Sheets, MS Word, or Excel

- Have experience with social media platforms such as Instagram or X/Twitter (preferred)

- Be at least 18 years old

- Hold permanent legal permission to work in the United Kingdom
