Applications are now open for the 2026 Internship Programme for Africa at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The 2026 FAO Internship Programme for Africa is designed to engage motivated and talented young women and men who are eager to contribute fresh insights, innovative thinking, and up-to-date academic knowledge to FAO’s areas of work. This opportunity offers participants valuable hands-on experience, enabling them to complement their academic studies with practical exposure in disciplines aligned with FAO’s mandate.

Through this internship, selected candidates will support efforts linked to the Sustainable Development Goals and FAO’s Strategic Framework for the 2030 Agenda. Interns will contribute to advancing more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agri-food systems that promote improved production, better nutrition, environmental sustainability, and enhanced livelihoods, ensuring that no one is left behind.

Interns will work under the guidance of an assigned supervisor and will be placed in relevant departments according to their academic background, professional profile, and the operational needs of the organization. Specific duties and responsibilities will be detailed in the Terms of Reference provided by the respective hiring office.

Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate programme at a recognized educational institution at the time of application, or have recently completed their studies. Candidates should be specializing in fields related to FAO’s mission and areas of operation. Proficiency in at least one of FAO’s official languages—Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, or Spanish—is required, while knowledge of a second official language will be considered an advantage. Applicants must be nationals of FAO member countries and between 21 and 30 years of age. The programme seeks individuals who can thrive in diverse, multicultural settings and demonstrate strong communication abilities, along with academic training relevant to the organization’s technical focus areas.
