Paid Internship : Apply for the MIT Emerging Talent Internship Program 2025
The MIT Emerging Talent initiative focuses on delivering online learning opportunities tailored to the specific needs of marginalized and underserved communities worldwide, particularly those affected by displacement, including refugees, migrants, and students in conflict zones.
This internship program offers organizations the chance to engage with an extraordinary and globally diverse pool of talent.
Participants in the program complete a year-long certification in Computer and Data Science through MIT, which encompasses technical coursework, hands-on learning, skills development, and networking. The current cohort includes learners from 35 countries, all of whom undergo intensive training in fields such as:
- Programming in Python: Covering essential coding skills and data structures.
- Computational Thinking and Data Science: Focusing on algorithmic strategies, probability theory, and problem-solving methods.
- Artificial Intelligence Fundamentals: Including topics in machine learning, clustering, and deep learning.
- Technical Tools Proficiency: With practical experience using GitHub, Jupyter Notebooks, pandas, numpy, and plotly.
Learner Profile:
These learners are selected through a competitive process, with an admission rate of only 2%. Over 70% have prior university-level education and bring experience across industries like engineering, finance, and healthcare. Aged between 20 and 40, participants are well-suited for diverse team environments and adaptable to both remote and in-person settings.
Internship Hosting Opportunities:
Organizations are invited to host interns from the 2025 cohort across various industries. The internships allow learners to apply their knowledge in real-world settings, refine their technical capabilities, and expand their professional networks.
- Duration: Flexible, typically 3–6 months
- Workload: 20–40 hours per week
- Format: Can be remote, in-person, or hybrid
- Compensation: Interns are paid based on prevailing rates, typically between $500 and $3,000 per month
- Supervision: Hosts are asked to assign a dedicated mentor or supervisor
Program Structure:
The Computer and Data Science Certificate program is built on four key pillars:
- Academic Rigor: Learners complete three MITx undergraduate-level courses (6.001, 6.002, and Universal AI) to gain expertise in computer science, data analysis, and programming.
- Professional Skill-Building: Workshops cover critical 21st-century workplace skills including project management, cybersecurity, communication, cultural awareness, and remote work best practices.
- Applied Experience: Participants demonstrate their skills through internships, short-term projects, or new employment opportunities.
- Community & Mentorship: Participants benefit from a global peer community and mentorship to support their career development.
Selection Process:
Candidates are reviewed by a panel of MIT-affiliated experts who assess aptitude for computer and data science, readiness to work collaboratively across cultures, and entrepreneurial potential. Many of the program’s learners are unemployed or underemployed due to conflict or displacement, making this initiative a pathway to re-enter or advance in the technology sector.
