PAID INTERNSHIP: IOM Italy Launches Applications for 2025 Diaspora Engagement Internship Program

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is offering an exciting opportunity for aspiring professionals to join its Migration and Sustainable Development (M&D) Unit as an intern focused on Diaspora Engagement. This role, based at the Coordinating Office for the Mediterranean under the supervision of the Director and Chief of Mission in Italy and Malta, provides an excellent platform to gain practical experience while supporting IOM’s mission and policies.

Interning with IOM is a chance to work in a diverse and inclusive environment, reflecting the organization’s dedication to fostering equality in the workplace. This internship program aims to attract talented individuals, including students and recent graduates, who are passionate about migration and sustainable development. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful work within an international setting.

Eligible candidates should be between the ages of 20 and 36, enrolled in the final year of a bachelor’s degree or higher, or recent graduates (within one year of graduation) in fields such as Political Science, International Relations, Development Cooperation, or Social Sciences. Applicants with less than two years of relevant work experience and those sponsored by institutions or scholarship programs are encouraged to apply.

The role involves a variety of responsibilities, including organizing events, preparing and translating project documents, supporting administrative tasks, coordinating with stakeholders, and creating communication materials. Interns will also participate in internal meetings related to M&D and may undertake additional tasks as needed. Proficiency in Italian and English is essential, while knowledge of other languages like French, Spanish, or Ukrainian is advantageous.

Ideal candidates will have prior experience in project coordination, event planning, or digital communications. Familiarity with virtual training platforms and tools is also beneficial. Interns are expected to embody IOM’s core values, including professionalism, inclusivity, integrity, and teamwork, while demonstrating strong communication and organizational skills.

The internship lasts between two to six months, with a full-time day schedule. While a modest stipend may be provided, candidates with external financial support are also welcome. Interns will receive coverage for occupational accidents or illnesses through IOM’s compensation plan, ensuring a supportive and secure experience throughout their tenure.
