About the Role
The Oxfam International (OI) EU Advocacy Office is seeking a dynamic, creative, and organized individual to join its team as an EU Media Assistant. This role involves supporting the EU media team in securing news coverage that amplifies Oxfam’s advocacy messages. The position is part of the OI EU Advocacy team, primarily based in Brussels, Belgium, which focuses on engaging with European Union institutions such as the European Commission, Council, and Parliament, as well as the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). This team also acts as a resource hub for Oxfam offices globally, helping to coordinate advocacy efforts and partnerships related to EU and OECD policies.

Contract Details
•Location: Brussels, Belgium
•Type: Internship (5-6 months, subject to funding)
•Working Hours: Full-time (36 hours per week)
•Flexible Working: Hybrid model, allowing up to two remote workdays per week, with a budget for home office setup.

Role Responsibilities
Media and Communication
•Assist in developing and implementing Oxfam EU’s communication strategies.
•Create and manage content for Oxfam EU’s social media platforms, including LinkedIn and Twitter.
•Draft press materials such as statements, reactions, and releases.
•Monitor media coverage and compile internal updates through newsletters.
•Maintain and update the Oxfam EU website and journalist contact lists.
•Oversee the media inbox and manage internal communication tools.
Project Coordination
•Support the planning and organization of advocacy and media events.
•Collaborate with the advocacy team to gain insight into specific focus areas, such as climate justice.
Qualifications
Essential
•A strong interest in communications and politics, particularly related to achieving global change.
•Excellent English language proficiency (C1 level or above).
•Previous experience or volunteering in media, social media, or journalism.
•Strong teamwork and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
•Awareness of cultural diversity and commitment to gender equality and inclusivity.
Desirable
•Familiarity with EU policymaking and legislative processes.
•Academic background in communications, journalism, or international development.
•Skills in multimedia production, including photo or video editing, and content design.
•Experience navigating issues of power, privilege, and intersectionality in advocacy contexts.
This internship offers hands-on experience in media strategy, project management, and EU policymaking, with a starting date of January 2024.
