About the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF)
Established in 2013 by CIFOR-ICRAF in partnership with key organizations like UNEP, the World Bank, and the Government of Germany, the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) was founded with a mission to engage youth and other marginalized groups meaningfully from the start.
Today, GLF has grown into the largest platform for sharing knowledge on sustainable land use, ecosystem restoration, and integrated landscape management. It is committed to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Paris Climate Agreement, and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework by 2030. GLF now includes 35 leading development and environmental organizations as Charter Members, bringing together diverse stakeholders to collaborate on solutions for a sustainable future.
Since its launch, GLF has connected over 25,000 organizations, 1.3 million young individuals, and 100 governments while engaging millions of participants across 185 countries. Through its efforts, GLF has reached over 2.9 billion people globally via digital and traditional media channels.
As it celebrates a decade of fostering sustainable landscape practices, GLF now focuses on three key pillars to drive local action toward restoration and sustainable development:
1.Empowering Communities and Youth Leadership: Through the GLFx chapter network, Restoration Stewards, and the Youth in Landscapes Initiative (YIL).
2.Scaling Landscape Initiatives: By promoting learning through the Landscape Academy and driving sustainable finance efforts.
3.Expanding the Global Movement: Through digital innovation, events, and campaigns that amplify action and awareness.
GLF serves as a dynamic space where farmers, policymakers, scientists, business leaders, and community representatives can come together to share knowledge, learn, and co-create solutions. From advocating for sustainable landscape investments to championing peatland conservation and restoration efforts across Africa, GLF continues to lead impactful conversations and initiatives to achieve global climate and development goals.
