PAID TRAINEESHIP: Apply for the 2025 FUNDED Traineeship for young graduates at the EU Delegation to the African Union
Applications are currently being accepted for the 2025 fully funded traineeship program for recent graduates at the European Union Delegation to the African Union. This opportunity is ideal for young professionals eager to explore the field of international relations and gain a deeper understanding of how a diplomatic mission operates. Trainees will have the chance to observe firsthand how the EU Delegation advocates for European interests and values while strengthening its partnership with the African Union in Ethiopia.
Participants in the program will contribute to political research and regional analysis, helping to prepare reports, briefings, and other communication materials. They will also assist in media relations by identifying and engaging with journalists and influencers, maintaining databases, and creating newsletters, press releases, and social media updates. The role further involves producing and editing a range of multimedia materials such as short videos, infographics, speeches, and project summaries, as well as supporting the planning and execution of public events.
Trainees will work closely with the Team Europe Communication Community and the Delegation’s Communication Cluster to help coordinate internal collaboration, manage shared workspaces, document meetings, and ensure smooth follow-up on agreed actions. They will also participate in organizing and attending both internal and external events, preparing relevant summaries and reports.
Eligible applicants must currently be residing in Ethiopia due to local health and security considerations. Candidates should hold a master’s degree in communication, journalism, or a related field, or in disciplines such as political science, international relations, economics, or law—provided they have demonstrable experience in communication work. Applicants should have no more than one year of professional experience and must be fluent in English. A strong interest in European and African political and economic affairs is essential, along with excellent analytical, writing, and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in creating digital and audiovisual content, as well as familiarity with tools like Canva or similar design platforms, is highly desirable. The ideal candidate is expected to be proactive, dependable, eager to learn, and willing to contribute creative ideas to enhance the Delegation’s communication and public diplomacy efforts.
The traineeship will last up to six months and take place within the Political, Press, and Information Section of the EU Delegation to the African Union in Ethiopia, beginning as early as November 2025. During this period, participants will support the section in advancing its communication objectives and strengthening the EU’s public engagement across Africa.
