The BBC East Africa Bureau, located in Nairobi, is offering a four-month Fixed Term Contract designed for aspiring journalists who are just beginning their careers. This unique opportunity is part of the BBC World Service’s Future Voices trainee scheme, specifically created for individuals with disabilities who are fluent in English and one of the following languages: French, Gahuza, Swahili, Portuguese, Arabic, Amharic, Tigrinya, Oromo, Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Tamasheq, Dzarma, Kikuyu, Kalenjin, Spanish, Malagasy, or Dholuo.

The program aims to provide valuable hands-on experience in journalism and help participants develop the skills needed to tell compelling stories for a global audience. It offers practical training in multimedia journalism, direct exposure to BBC World Service News teams, and mentorship from experienced professionals. Participants will also receive a salary during the program and have the chance to produce a piece of content that can serve as a foundation for building their portfolio.

To qualify for this opportunity, candidates must be individuals with disabilities who are officially registered with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities. They should be at least 18 years old when the program begins in April 2025 and must have the legal right to work full-time in Kenya. Additionally, they must be fluent in English and at least one of the specified World Service languages.
