Applications are open for the MFWA Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) Journalism Fellowship Programme 2025, an exciting opportunity for journalists in Nigeria to expand their skills and expertise in reporting on digital transformation and public infrastructure. The fellowship, which will run from October 2025 to March 2026, will bring together fifteen experienced journalists who are eager to produce impactful stories that shed light on the growing importance of digital public goods. Through a blend of in-person training, virtual workshops, mentorship, and hands-on reporting, participants will enhance their knowledge and contribute to meaningful conversations around digitalisation in society.

Over the course of six months, fellows are required to publish at least six in-depth stories on digital public infrastructure and related themes, working closely with their media organisations. To enable this, the programme provides robust financial and professional support. Each fellow will receive a monthly stipend of 250 US dollars for the first three months, along with reporting grants of up to 300 US dollars per story. Partner newsrooms will be awarded a one-time grant of 1,000 US dollars to reinforce institutional backing for the fellows’ work. Additionally, high-performing journalists will be considered for travel grants, offering them the chance to attend international training sessions, conferences, or workshops to further strengthen their reporting skills and expand their networks. Beyond financial assistance, fellows will gain access to mentorship, guidance, and capacity-building opportunities that will equip them to produce quality journalism on digitalisation and public infrastructure.

Eligibility for this fellowship is open to Nigerian journalists who can demonstrate strong professional experience in research-based reporting. Applicants should possess at least a basic knowledge or interest in digitalisation and ICT-related issues, and must show commitment to learning and engaging with new ideas. Strong interpersonal abilities, teamwork skills, and a proactive attitude are essential. Candidates are also expected to have the support of their media organisations, which must be confirmed through an official letter of endorsement. The application package should include a 350-word statement of interest, a detailed CV with two referees, a letter of support from the applicant’s newsroom, and a valid national identity card.
