The Climate & Care Initiative Fund (funding of Up to USD $50,000 per project) – Apply now

The Climate & Care Initiative, backed by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and led by a consortium that includes the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD), Oxfam Canada, and Fundación Avina, in collaboration with the Global Alliance for Care, is dedicated to supporting the intersection of climate and care in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Sub-Saharan Africa.

This fund invites innovative approaches that link climate and care to foster equitable, sustainable development and a just transition. It serves as a call to action for those leading efforts in climate and care to help organizations and initiatives generate evidence on the importance of integrating these vital areas.

About This Funding Opportunity

Climate change and care work are closely linked. The impacts of climate change increase the demand for both paid and unpaid care work, which is predominantly carried out by women. It also reduces access to essential natural resources like water and firewood, while mitigation efforts such as waste management and biodiversity conservation are often shouldered by unpaid female labor. This added burden limits caregivers’ involvement in climate decision-making and green jobs that support a just transition. By integrating climate and care actions, we have an opportunity to create resilient, sustainable systems and promote equitable societies.

If you're a grassroots organization, NGO, or movement from the Global South focused on climate and care, this is your chance to make a real impact. We are seeking projects that not only acknowledge the connection between climate and care but also actively work to transform it.

Don't miss out on the application deadline which is December 10, 2024, the selection committee of the Climate and Care Initiative will screen out inapplicable initiatives and evaluate the applicable ones along with their references. This will lead to a selection process by the same committee, which will notify the chosen proposals around December 20th, 2024.
