VOLUNTEER ROLES: Apply to join the Steering Committee of the Children and Youth Pavilion at COP30, Brazil!
Young people around the world have an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping the Children and Youth Pavilion at COP30, which will take place in the Blue Zone in Brazil. This space, entirely led by youth, will serve as a hub for discussions, education, creativity, policy engagement, and even moments of rest and reflection. It is a platform where young voices from across the globe can unite to advocate for meaningful climate action and participate in shaping international policies.
Following the remarkable success of last year’s Pavilion at COP29, preparations are now underway to continue this momentum and ensure an even greater impact at COP30. In the spirit of inclusion and collective action, young leaders and youth-led organizations are invited to express their interest in joining the Pavilion’s Steering Committee. This committee will play a crucial role in organizing and curating the Pavilion, ensuring that it serves as an effective space for young people to engage with global leaders and decision-makers.
Becoming a member of the Steering Committee is a role that comes with both responsibility and great rewards. Members will be actively involved in shaping the Pavilion’s agenda by participating in decision-making, overseeing working groups, and collaborating with a diverse range of partners. This will require regular engagement through weekly meetings and consistent communication via email. While participation in the Steering Committee does not automatically guarantee a dedicated session at the Pavilion, the contributions of its members will be recognized and valued when designing the final program.
Organizations that wish to apply should have a strong regional or global presence, a clear focus on climate change, and a leadership team composed of young people. Applicants should be familiar with the processes of the UNFCCC and COP and must have been active for at least a year, with a transparent record of past work. The ability to demonstrate significant impact, outreach, and engagement with young people or children will be an important factor in the selection process. Selected organizations will need to commit to active participation, with either one representative dedicating four hours per week or two representatives contributing a combined six hours weekly. The level of engagement may vary depending on the stage of preparations leading up to COP30.
While the Steering Committee will be limited to two representatives per organization to ensure smooth coordination, additional team members will have the chance to join working groups at a later stage. Importantly, all applicants must align with the Pavilion’s guiding principles and must not be affiliated with any entity whose values could undermine the Pavilion’s integrity, such as fossil fuel organizations.
Young changemakers and organizations dedicated to climate action are strongly encouraged to seize this opportunity to be at the heart of youth-led advocacy at COP30. The deadline to submit expressions of interest is Monday, April 14, by 11:59 PM GMT. This is a chance to be part of a global movement that is amplifying young voices in climate discussions and pushing for a more sustainable and just future.
