The Department is engaging a professional for the directorship of multiple in person initiatives and online courses in Arabic that will be taking place in the upcoming months.

  • Under the supervision of the Senior Coordinator, the Consultant is expected to:
  • Develop the course materials, and the instructional design and interactive methodology of sessions;
  • Coordinate internally to ensure the effective implementation of the initiatives;
  • Moderate the initiatives in situ and facilitate some sessions;
  • Carry out other tasks relevant to the completion of the initiatives.

The International Institute of Humanitarian Law is an independent, non-profit, humanitarian association founded in 1970 in Sanremo, Italy. The Institute organizes training courses in the fields of international humanitarian law, human rights, refugee law and related issues and promotes dialogue by organizing international conferences, meetings and seminars of high-level government officials, scholars and practitioners.

The mission of the Department of International Refugee Law and Migration Law is to enhance the knowledge and skills of government officials, international organizations, civil society representatives, and academics involved in working with individuals in need of protection, including refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), stateless individuals, and migrants. Through its capacity-building initiatives and the exchange of experiences, the Department advocates for the preservation of human rights, thus complementing and augmenting the efforts of various stakeholders in the field of protection.

The Institute enjoys a consultative status at ECOSOC, a participatory status at the Council of Europe and holds observer status at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) ExCom, and with the International Organization for Migration.

Since 2020, the Department has moved to an online environment, delivering over 90 Online Courses in English, French, Arabic, Spanish, and Russian through its Online Learning Platform and interactive online learning tools. In the meantime, the Department also keeps its in-person initiatives, delivering training and workshops in Sanremo or to field locations for the development of tailored initiatives. Eligibility Criteria
Advanced university degree (Doctorate or Master's degree or equivalent) in international law, international affairs, political sciences or related area;
At least 10 years of experience in capacity development for authorities including in refugee protection;
Experience of work in MENA region;
Expertise in international refugee law, international migration law and mixed movements;
Strong political awareness and diplomatic skills;
Research skills and legal background;
Strong public speaking skills;
Excellent relationship management and communication skills;
Ability to work as a member of a team, with people of different cultural backgrounds.
