Job Purpose and Organizational Context
UNDP leads on sustainable development within the UN system, coordinating efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our work spans from local knowledge to global advocacy, facilitated through the Global Policy Network (GPN), which provides technical expertise and policy guidance. The Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS) develops policy, offers technical advice, and works closely with UNDP's Crisis Bureau (CB) to ensure integration of risk management in development programs. BPPS focuses on innovative, knowledge-driven approaches to achieve better results through integrated programming and effective performance monitoring.
BPPS’s Nature, Climate, Energy, and Waste Hubs, along with the Vertical Fund Programme Support, help countries incorporate environmental considerations into policies, meet international environmental commitments, and implement in-country programs on climate change, energy, and waste management.
The UNDP Climate Hub is committed to the "Climate Promise," supporting countries in delivering ambitious National Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement. The Hub manages a portfolio of over US$4 billion across 142 countries, integrating climate action into national development planning.
The Climate Hub’s key responsibilities include:
- Leading on climate thought leadership and policy;
- Strategy and vision development;
- Coordinating pipeline development;
- Providing integrated policy and program support;
- Driving global engagement and advocacy;
- Developing partnerships and mobilizing resources;
- Leading flagship initiatives and partnerships related to climate;
- Serving as the focal point for UN coordination on climate issues;
- Promoting cross-organizational knowledge-sharing and innovation.
Scope of Work
UNDP is hiring a Social Media Specialist to manage the Climate Hub's social media channels and digital communications. The role involves developing content, managing visual resources, and supporting key reports, campaigns, and events. Responsibilities include:
- Leading social media efforts for the Climate Hub;
- Implementing a social media strategy aligned with the Hub's objectives;
- Creating and managing a steady content pipeline;
- Producing visual assets like graphics and videos;
- Reporting on social media performance;
- Supporting key events such as COP, Regional Climate Weeks, and UNGA;
- Coordinating with UNDP’s BERA team to ensure digital alignment;
- Delivering training on social media best practices.
Institutional Arrangement
The Social Media Analyst will report to the Lead Communications Specialist and work remotely.

Additional Information
- Education: A master’s degree in International Relations, Environmental Studies, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, IT, or related fields, or a bachelor’s degree with additional experience.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years (with a master’s) or 4 years (with a bachelor’s) in digital communications or media, preferably in international or non-profit organizations.
- Skills: Strong understanding of digital communications, experience in climate-related content, social media asset creation, and proficiency in tools like Hootsuite, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.
- Languages: Fluency in English required; knowledge of additional UN languages is a plus.
