The Brenthurst Foundation is seeking applications from recent graduates for the Machel-Mandela Internship Programme, which honors former South African President Nelson Mandela and his wife, Graça Machel.

This internship provides graduates the chance to engage in the work of one of Africa's prominent think tanks, including assisting with event organization, contributing to the writing of papers and opinion pieces, and supporting various policy-related tasks.

Specifics:

The selected individual is expected to start the internship by February 1, 2025, and it will be full-time for at least six months. South Africa or somewhere else could be the intern's home. Their headquarters will be in Parktown, Johannesburg, at the Brenthurst Foundation.

During a variety of tasks and activities, some of which will involve international travel, interns will collaborate closely with and support the Foundation's employees.

Applications must be submitted by November 15, 2024. Only those who have been shortlisted will be contacted due to the large number of applications. If, by December 31, 2024, you have not received a response, please consider your application unsuccessful.

Program Benefits

There will be a monthly all-inclusive stipend and, if necessary (per Foundation policy), housing. Depending on the terms of the agreement with the Foundation, additional work-related expenses might potentially be covered.

Eligibility Criteria

**Requirements:**

- Must be under 30 years of age
- Hold a Master’s degree
- Proficiency in spoken and written English; knowledge of African and other languages is a plus
- Strong communication skills
- Enthusiastic, dependable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Capable of meeting deadlines while maintaining attention to detail
- Proficient in basic IT skills
- Copy-editing and proofreading skills are an advantage
- Passion for Africa and a strong interest in innovative strategies to boost the continent’s economic performance
- A broad understanding of African politics and economics
- Familiarity with the Brenthurst Foundation's work
