PAID FELLOWSHIP: Apply for the AU-AIP Youth Fellowship and mentorship Programme 2024

Applications are open for the 2024 AU-AIP Youth Fellowship and Mentorship Programme, designed to support and empower Africa’s future water leaders.

This programme helps young people become strong advocates for water investments in Africa while promoting job creation through gender-inclusive projects in water security, industrial growth, and climate-resilient development.

AIP Youth Fellows will assist with implementing AIP’s goals, including promoting water and climate resilience and encouraging gender-transformative investments. They will work closely with GWP regional coordinators and AU-AIP national coordinators. Guidance will also come from the AU-AIP Africa Youth Coordinator and Advisor, along with the AU-AIP Secretariat. Fellows will help with communication and knowledge management for the “Mind the Gap – Invest in Water” campaign.

Benefits:

•Fellows will join AU-led teams to help implement the AIP and will connect with regional and global networks.

•At the end of the fellowship, participants will receive a certificate and a recommendation letter from the AU and GWP-Africa.

•Top-performing fellows may be introduced to partners for further professional growth, and in some cases, AIP, GWP-Africa, or their partners may offer opportunities for continued work in regional programmes.

•Fellows will receive a monthly stipend of EUR 500 for incidental expenses. There is also a volunteer option for those interested in participating without receiving the monthly stipend.

Requirements:

To apply for the AIP Youth Fellowship and Mentorship Programme, candidates must meet the following criteria:

•Be motivated to support the “Mind the Gap – Invest in Water” campaign, open to mentorship, and eager to learn from peers.

•Hold a Master’s degree in a field relevant to AIP and GWP Africa, having graduated within the last 3-5 years. A PhD is a plus.

•Postgraduate students (Master’s or PhD) must be expected to graduate within six months of applying. A reference letter from the academic supervisor may be required.

•Have a strong understanding of topics such as water security, climate change, gender equality, sustainable development, and climate financing.

•Be fluent in English, with knowledge of other African Union languages like French or Portuguese being an added advantage.

•Be a citizen or resident of an AU Member State. Preference will be given to applicants from countries such as Uganda, Kenya, Ghana, Malawi, Tunisia, Mozambique, and others listed.
